Hi guys and gals,

During the new few weeks we will gradually be adding a collection of new games to the server.

The 1st one is a simple nifty little fantasy RPG called Dragon's Knight. You can reach it by clicking this link - the direct URL is

For those who are using a standalone IRC client, here is a short list of useful IRC commands:

/server irc.synchro.netÂ Â Â The server command will connect you to a specific server network, such as the synchro.net network, or dalnet (irc.dal.net), ircnet (irc,ircnet.com), efnet (irc.efnet.org) or undernet (irc.under.net). The last 4 are known as the big 4.
/disconnectÂ Â Â Â Â This command will disconnect you from the network
/nick nicknameÂ Â This command allows you to set or change your nickname - mostly restricted to 8 or 16 characters, space is disallowed.
/join #channelÂ Â Â This allows to join a channel (aka chatroom). To join our channel, useÂ Â /join #testing
/partÂ Â Â orÂ /part #channelÂ Â Â Â leave a channel
/away reasonÂ Â Â mark yourself as temporarily unavailable (the reason is optional). To come back use the /away command with nothing else (some clients will recognize the /back command to come out of the away status)

There are more commands and possibilities, some are incoorporated in IRC clients. You can find a full list of IRC commands on wikipedia. Some servers offer specific services such as nickname protection (NickServ) and channel protection (ChanServ). Some networks allow IRC bots, others don't. When in doubt check the website of the network.

The War Control chatroom is an IRC channel which can be reached by clicking on the ingame War Control link which will open an IRC client webinterface.

However you can also reach it without the webclient. To do this you need to use a standalone IRC client (e.g. chatzilla, xchat, mIRC, pidgin, ...) and issue the following commands:

/server cpugod.synchro.net
/join #testing

The channel is protected against hostile take over, and most of the time there is a channel operator who can - if need be - kick or even ban people from the channel.
Should cpugod.synchro.net not react quickly enough, you can try

/server irc.synchro.net

as a backup.

Eeeuh... LOL

I have worked for quite a few years as a security analyst & consultant for big and smaller companies with an internet presence, a few smaller ISPs and together with some sollegues made a few anti-spam patches for qmail. In other words I have been on the other side of the barricades.

Spam sent through dynamic IP based servers, roughly accounted for 1/5th of all spam. In the heydays of spam, one small company I worked was hit by about 10K messages per day Blocking the dyn IP servers got rid of a quarter of those. Blocking rogue (Russian) internet businesses blocked another 65% and the rest was (mostly) filtered out by banyan/vines styled filters.
There is nothing more depressing than having to reconfigure mail servers that went down due to heavy spamming. Nowadays spam is again becoming a threat as more and more spammers used it to propagate trojan horse in order to enlist the receiver's computer into

Most anti-soam laws came to be because small and big companies came to rely on email for conducting business, and every day users being fed up having to wade through thousands of spams to find one or 2 bona fide messages. Recently spambots were created that target bulletin boards. Since they cracked the native captcha code of phpBB2 & 3, admins have to be creative in order to block those messages.

There is nothing wrong with anti-spam rules and laws, just as there is nothing wrong with synchro.net. It is just that times and technology evolve...
